Drugs
Neon
lights illumined empty shopping streets. The street lights were reflected
in the stone stairs going up towards a park. At the upper end of the
stairs my sister Janna sat down with her daughter Ilona. I asked what
they were doing here at this time of night?
Janna
and Ilona looked pale and didn't say a word. I pushed Janna so as
to get an answer. She woke up from her stupor but didn't recognize
me. Instead she took out an injection needle. "You're not using
drugs, are you?" I asked.
Filling
the needle with translucent liquid, Janna replied, "Ilona needs
this." She stuck the needle into Ilona's arm and pumped drug
to Ilona's veins. Ilona looked blue and transparent like a balloon
filled with water. She was drugged, almost unconscious, and she got
more liquid inside her body.
"Be
careful!" I shouted. "Ilona might get an overdose!"
Ilona opened her eyes and said, "More, I want more."
Janna
pumped more stuff into Ilona. She lost consciousness and her head
fell backwards. Janna said she was only taking care of Ilona. "She
needs her daily dose."
My
sister was drugging her daughter even more. I realized that she was
in serious danger, so I snatched her away from her. Ilona opened her
eyes and was conscious for a moment. "My mother is killing me,"
she said.
Out
of Janna's reach Ilona didn't look so plastic any more. Janna was
busy injecting the needle into her own arm. The veins were black with
needle scars.
"Are
you in such a bad mess?" I asked.
"I'm worse than you think," she replied and fell down unconscious.
I
called my parents. They took Ilona into their care and reproached
Janna. The police came to the scene and lifter her up. She was taken
into custody and transported away.
